Senior Java Developer Full Time

Our client is seeking two Senior Java Developers to join a Cape Town-based team working within a retail Point of Sale environment. This is an office-based role suited to experienced developers with strong Java expertise and exposure to enterprise retail and integration systems.

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain Java-based Point of Sale (POS) solutions
• Design, prototype, and implement new software features and enhancements
• Integrate third-party systems using SOAP and REST APIs
• Support hardware integration including card terminals, printers, and peripherals
• Work with SAP integration and retail system environments
• Develop UI components using Swing, HTML5, and CSS
• Produce technical documentation including UML diagrams and system specifications
• Participate in full software development lifecycle activities

Requirements:
• 5+ years’ experience in Java enterprise development
• Proven experience in retail POS systems development
• Strong Java, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, and SQL skills
• Experience with Spring, Web Services, and CI tools (Jenkins, Nexus)
• Experience with Oracle and/or SQL Server databases
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Degree or relevant qualification in IT or related field

Advantageous:
• SAP retail solution knowledge and integration experience (strong requirement)
• Experience with GWT, SVN, JUnit, and Eclipse
• Exposure to hardware integration in retail environments
• German language skills beneficial
• Experience working in large enterprise or matrix organisations
