Principal Civil Engineer Full Time

Our client is looking for a seasoned Civil Engineer to take ownership of major civil engineering deliverables and provide professional leadership within a multidisciplinary consulting environment. The position offers an opportunity to apply advanced technical expertise across development and municipal infrastructure projects while supporting the growth of the wider engineering team.

What You Will Be Responsible For
• Lead the planning, design and delivery of civil infrastructure projects.
• Take technical responsibility from early feasibility and concept stages through construction.
• Develop and review designs for:
o Roads and access infrastructure
o Bulk earthworks and development platforms
o Stormwater management and drainage
o Sewer and wastewater systems
o Potable and fire water infrastructure
o Municipal services and external connections
• Review technical documentation, including calculations, reports, drawings, specifications and tender packages.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant South African standards, engineering codes and municipal requirements.
• Provide professional engineering review, technical oversight and sign-off as required.
• Lead Civil 3D-based design and BIM coordination across project disciplines.
• Work closely with architects, structural and MEP engineers, developers, contractors and local authorities.
• Mentor and support engineers, technologists and BIM/CAD staff.
• Contribute technical expertise during client and project meetings.

Skills & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised institution.
• Professionally registered as a Pr Eng with ECSA.
• 8+ years’ consulting engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of training, qualifications and demonstrated competence.
• Strong technical judgement with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex engineering problems.
• Demonstrated civil infrastructure design and delivery experience.
• Proficient in Civil 3D with a solid understanding of BIM-enabled workflows.
• Knowledge of South African standards, municipal processes and engineering codes.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Structural design experience is advantageous.
• Experience working on projects requiring City of Cape Town approvals is advantageous.
